The Oregon Equal Pay Act of 2017 strengthens existing protections, creates new provisions to ensure an individual’s past salary does not hold them back when applying for a new job, and encourages all employers to conduct a pay equity study. The law has created considerable new obligations and areas of liability for Oregon employers and it can take time for businesses to discover and correct pay inequities in a workforce.
While certain provisions of the law do not take effect until 2024, there are steps that need to be taken in advance of that date. We will cover an overview of the law and the obligations each employer needs to assess and act upon.
